SHAKE OF THE DUST -ARISE !
The Gihon Spring is the heart of the City of David, where Jerusalem was born almost 4,000 years ago .David drank from the Gihon Spring and Solomon was anointed King of Israel by him. In time of siege and war, Hezekiah, king of Judah, diverted the spring's water into the city via the Shiloah Tunnel to protect them from the Assyrian enemy. Over the years, the water became known for its holy and healing qualities and was used for purification and worship in the Temple . "Therefore with joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation" (Isaiah 12;3)
This sample from the Gihon Spring, which flows till this day, together with earth from archaeological excavations in the City of David, symbolize the historical and eternal bond between the Jewish people and the modern City of David ancient Jerusalem.
I am awestruck. I have believed in, known of and have been taught about the life of David over my entire life. The water from the Gihon Spring twinkles like a welling up tear for David's poetic words of "Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings" in Psalm 17:8, KJV, and the beautiful ability to direct any heart as David's son Solomon poetically describes in Proverbs 21:1. The excavated archeological earth from the City of David Ancient Jerusalem is meaningful beyond words, and enhances my lifelong study of the Bible. The thought that this precious dust was among the earth and stones where David once walked in his poetic way humbles my soul, yet inspires my heart to soar. Perhaps when David wrote his consoling words in Psalm 55:6, his thoughts could have been of the architecture of Jerusalem, the grazing fields and of his family home in Bethlehem, literally the house of David. I will be so deeply honored to have this precious earth and water, and symbolized harp of David in my home, forevermore.
