This necklace is inspired by a scroll that was found rolled up in such a way that a string could be threaded through in order to be worn. It is believed that the owner wore it as a necklace or amulet. Two such scrolls were discovered at the Ketef Hinnom burial caves during excavations that took place there in the 1970’s. The scrolls are dated to the seventh century BCE, the end of the First Temple period. These verses are the earliest testimony known to us of words from the Bible.
"May the Lord bless you and guard you, May the Lord make his face shed light upon you and be gracious unto you, May the Lord lift up his face unto you and give you peace." (Numbers 6, 24-26)
