The earrings and necklace in this set are designed in the shape of a flower upon which a pearl is hung. The inspiration was the medallions found as part of the Menorah treasure in the Ophel excavations. The buried treasure cache included an exquisite ornamental chain for a Torah scroll. The front side of the ornament is a large medallion decorated with a gold Menorah, shofar and Torah scroll, and the back side contains three smaller medallions with intricate designs, including the flower decoration that inspired the design for both these earrings and necklace. The treasure was hidden by Jewish travelers who came to Jerusalem at the end of the Byzantine period and reluctantly left due to the persecution during the short-lived Persian conquest.
