The design of this piece was inspired by a proto-Ionic capital, an impressive and large capital, which is considered the most beautiful of the capitals of its kind discovered to date in Israel. This impressive remnant was discovered on the slopes of Kiryat Hashalton (Area G) in the City of David, and undoubtedly adorned a majestic structure. The title dates to the tenth century BCE, so it may have adorned the Palace of the Kings of the House of David.
